Welcome to techThoughts. I had intended to have this site operating for quite some time. It seems that while there is no limit to what can be discussed, taking the time to etch it in stone can seem rather daunting. To that end, I have heard the requests, sipped my beverage, gulped my fear and am excited to join the blogosphere.
Like many people involved in technology, I am constantly asked questions about a wide range of technology. As a person works in the software world, many of these questions often involve help desk activity for both family and friends.
However, even more are general discussions about the current state of technology, where we have been, where we are going, new gadgets, software, and so it goes. Technology is a pretty generic term, but one thing is clear, all of us are in one way or another touched by it. As such, technology conversation can touch on everything from law, to business, to hardware, to privacy, and so on. Accordingly, techThoughts will cover this wide variety of topics, with a general orbit around the software, computer and related industries.
As for me more specifically, I have often eschewed the term "geek" because for most people this is not a label to be proud of (perhaps this is an area to be delved into). I will instead say that I am a techie. I was exposed to my first computer experience when I was 11 years old. Like many others, I was instantly hooked. The ability to not only use the device (an Apple), but to create things within it was absolutely fascinating! As an 11 year old, the notion of being able to make your own game, play tricks on others, and hey, even be able to alter grades ala "War Games" was just too much of a hook.
From that point on, for the past 20 years or so, I have never lost that passion. Since my "wow" moment as a child, I have been lucky enough to continue to "play" with and still retain the same passion for technology as I had then. Over the years, I have founded businesses, invented patented systems, lead development teams, programmed in too many languages to count, managed, been makeshift lawyer, graphic artist and so it goes. Having worked in everything from a startup to Fortune 100 company size has meant wearing a lot of different hats, and being exposed to a lot of different experiences to learn from. To me, that is and has been the best part; regardless of "good" or "bad" everything is an opportunity to learn. I hope to share some of that perspective, as well as just straight forward tech talk. After all, this is supposed to be fun right?
As with everyone in the blogosphere, this will be a work in progress, and while I hope to share some useful things to anyone reading this, I am just as excited to learn from everyone else. I will no doubt make mistakes, post grammatically incorrect sentences, be wrong about some things and perhaps change my opinion over time but that is all a part of the experience. I invite anyone and everyone to send in thoughts, ideas for posts and questions.
Welcome, and thank you for reading!
