A Bagful 'O Links : Ads, Battles, Common Sense, Filing, Masochism, Mixing, Whining and More
- Text Link Ads: The Best Alternative to Google’s AdSense
Perhaps I am the last to know about this... It seems interesting if you have a decent PageRank. I have an outstanding question about multiple domains, i.e. can they handle that in one account? - Should Living At Altitude Be Banned Like Steroids?
One of the reasons I like to read Techdirt. - Google's Desktop Offensive
Is it me, or does this seem to be a redux of a yearly (at least) article that appears. It always seems to boil down to Microsoft battling someone for desktop supremacy... Hey I am all for battles, but I just wonder how many times this story line can be repeated? I seem to spot a trend with these "battles". - Getting Things Done With SpeedFiler
I am checking this out. With hundreds of emails a day flooding in, I need to find a better system for handling all of it. This looks promising.
- The New Free Napster
I have recently been converted (or assimilated perhaps?) to the music subscription way of things. DRM issues aside, it works for me (for reasons I plan on writing about later). I do not however use Napster for the simple reason that they did not have in browser streaming capability. The lack of ability to stream from places where I do not have access to their software was a real downer. They are moving in the right direction and I may have to look at them again. That said, with Urge on the horizon, I think I will at least wait for that. - Sling Media Busy With Patents, SlingPlayer Mobile
How many times have you wanted to PlaceShift your television content? I can think of a few and the more ways the better. - Techdirt: Why The "Copy Protection Is Necessary" Argument Doesn't Make Sense
Another reason why I like to read Techdirt... I can disagree sometimes, but thought is clearly put into the arguments. - ICANN Reject .XXX vote & another article
All arguments aside, porn is not going away from the Internet. It is going to be there. It would seem to make sense to lock it up in a domain name area where it can more easily be blocked when needed. Like needing to be an educational or government entity to get a .edu or .gov domain, in order to have a pornography site you must use .xxx. I know, the level is subjective as to what gets put in that box... but I think something like this has to be better then when a child types in whitehouse.com and is taken to an adult site. Again, if you are a parent it would seem a lot easier to simply block access to anything with a .xxx domain then what hoops have to be jumped though today. - Startup using water to fuel cars
Can you imagine? Not just the cost saving, pollution etc. You would never have to worry about running out of fuel again ;) - I am a whiner
In the you say tomato, I say tomato category. Oh wait, that probably does not work when the same person is reading it. Well, moral of the story, call Mark Cuban a whiner any day. - Report: Ionic air purifiers create -- cough, cough -- smog
Luckily I just got one of these not too long ago! Ah, I love the smell of smog in the morning. - Consolas - A new font for the Visual Studio 2005 Editor
A lot of developers had already harvested this from Windows Vista, but now you can legally download it. I have to say that I personally really enjoy it! While it could be because it is simply new, there is something nice about it. - BitTorrent & Warner Brothers
I have already said I am alright with subscription services, so take that as an example I am not against DRM outright. That being said, who in their right mind is going to pay full DVD price for the privilage of downloading a movie that can only be played on the computer you downloaded it to. System crashes? Too bad. Want to get a new computer? Too bad. Take it to your friends? Only if you have a laptop. It just seems absurd that they would even bother... But then again, why not? It is your bandwidth they are using and if you agree to it then what do they have to lose? For BitTorrent it makes more sense.
- Living in the Land Of Obfuscation
No this is not about some wiretapping thing, this is about code obfuscation relating to .NET. There are some gotchas that are probably not readily apparent. - Ajaxian.com
There are just too many links to specifically link to. Just go and read. - List of Web 2.0 Lists
The title says it all. Web 2.0 name aside, if you do not know or care about what people call "Web 2.0", then this link is not for you. - Now you do not have to be a masochist
VB/C#, while on .NET they are essentially the same, VB is easier to use sometimes. At any rate, a link to an article and a couple of books relating to Office development. - Mix06 Sessions are online
All of the session from the Microsoft conference for web developers, designers and businesses. Free.
There are many, many more but I think I will stop for the day.
